7 Ways NOT to Serve Online

Just like any important role (parenting, driving, reading…) online ministry can become rote.  We water down the significant task at hand when we allow other, less important, tasks to bleed into the time.  Here are some suggestions to help you avoid losing effectiveness in and passion for online ministry:

1. SERVE SPORADICALLY.  Instead, block out regular time to minister to others online on your schedule each week.
2. BE DISTRACTED.  Commit to closing all browser windows on your computer that aren’t directly related to online church.
3. TAKE CALLS.  Don’t take calls unless there’s an emergency.
4. MULTI-TASK.  Eating dinner while serving online isn’t the best way to achieve either goal.
5. WATCH TV. (This should go without saying, but I’m afraid it doesn’t.)
6. FORGET PRAYER.  Our spiritual enemy would love for you to serve unprepared.  Take time to pray and process before serving others.
7. IGNORE OFFLINE MINISTERS’ EXAMPLES.  The image in this post is of a boy waiting to go to confession.  Do you think his priest is doing any of the above?

I’m already guilty..especially the phone, browsers, and possibly tv once in awhile ones. Though there are times when those are all okay when serving and times when it’s not. Great post!

That is great stuff! My church’s team, once assembled, definitely needs this!

Thank you so much for this post Miss Dana. It’s a great reminder that we need to “hyper” focus and be intensive in doing all to the glory of God. After all, we are all involved in online ministry for one real purpose. To lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ, and we can’t do that well while distracted.
